Report on Import & Export of Romania鈥檚 Trade in Services in January-May 2019

The preliminary statistics released by the BNR show that in January-May of 2019, Romania鈥檚 total volume of imports and exports of trade in services was 16.203 billion euros, up 14.9% year on year. Among these, the export volume was 9.791 billion euros, up 12.8% year on year; the import volume was 6.412 billion euros, up 18.3% year on year. The surplus of trade in services was 3.377 billion euros, up 3.6% year on year.

In terms of industries, the industries with higher volumes of imports and exports of trade in service are:

1.Transportation Service

In January-May 2019, the import and export volume of trade in transportation service reached 4.334 billion euros, up 17.4% year on year, accounting for 26.7% of the total service trade volume. Among these, the export volume was 3.033 billion euros, up 17.1% year on year, and the import volume was 1.301 billion euros, up 17.8% year on year.

From the perspective of transportation modes, road transportation service took up the biggest proportion, and its trade volume of imports and exports was 3.085 billion euros, accounting for 71.2% of the amount of trade in transportation service, followed by air transportation service, with a trade volume of 586 million euros, taking up 13.5%.

2. Other Business Services

In January-May 2019, the import and export volume of other business services was 3.880 billion euros, up 19.7% year on year, accounting for 23.9% of the total service trade volume. Among these, the export volume was 2.066 billion euros, up 15.2% year on year, and the import volume was 1.814 billion euros, up 25.4% year on year.

Among these錛宼he import and export volume of technology, trade and other business services was 1.888 billion euros, up 13.6% year on year; the export volume was 1.016 billion euros, up 15.1% year on year; the import volume was 872 million euros, up 11.9% year on year.

The import and export volume of occupation and management consulting services was 1.502 billion euros, up 11.9% year on year. The export volume was 943 million euros, up 16.4% year on year. The import volume was 559 million euros, up 5.1% year on year.

3. Communication, Computer and Information Services

In January-May 2019, the import and export volume of trade in communication, computer and information services was 2.978 billion euros, up 15.7% year on year, accounting for 18.4% of the total service trade volume. Among these, the export volume was 2.024 billion euros, up 12.7% year on year; the import volume was 954 million euros, up 22.5% year on year.

4. Tourism Service

In January-May 2019, the import and export volume of trade in tourism service was 2.423 billion euros, up 14.2% year on year, accounting for 14.95% of the total service trade volume. Among these, the export volume was 864 million euros, up 5.9% year on year; the import volume was 1.559 billion euros, up 19.5% year on year.

5. Processing Trade

In January-May 2019, the import and export volume of processing trade was 1.303 billion euros, up 5.6% year on year, accounting for 8.04% of the total service trade volume. Among these, the export volume was 1.235 billion euros, up 7.2% year on year; the import volume was 68 million euros, down 17.1% year on year.

In addition, the import and export volume of trade by charging the intellectual rights was 351 million euros, down 6.9% year on year, accounting for 2.17% of the total service trade volume; the import and export volume of trade in financial service was 201 million euros, down 6.5% over the same period last year, accounting for 1.24% of the total volume of trade in services; the import and export volume of trade in maintenance service was 256 million euros, down 0.8% year on year, accounting for 1.58% of the total service trade volume; the import and export volume of trade in construction service was 241 million euros, up 12.6% year on year, accounting for 1.5% of the total service trade volume; the import and export volume of trade in insurance and pension services was 124 million euros, up 4.2% year on year, accounting for 0.77% of the total service trade amount. The import and export volume of trade in services such as human resources, culture, entertainment and government services was less.
