Report on Import & Export of Goods Trade of Romania in January-May 2019

The preliminary statistics released by INS shows that in January-May 2019, the total volume of import and export of goods trade of Romania was 65.2019 billion euros, up 6.5% year on year. Among these, the FOB export volume was 29.3393 billion euros, up 4.4% year on year, and the CIF import volume was 35.8626 billion euros, up 8.3% year on year.

In May, the FOB export volume was 6.2727 billion euros, up 6.8% year on year and 13.4% month on month and the CIF import volume was 7.7543 billion euros, up 8.5%year on year and 12.1% month on month.

I. Trade within the EU

In January-May 2019, Romania鈥檚 trade volume with the EU countries was 49.5831 billion euros, up 16.5% year on year, taking up 76.0% of Romania鈥檚 total amount of import and export over the same period of time. Among these, the export volume was 22.6666 billion euros, up 15.9% year on year, accounting for 77.3% of the total export amount over the same period of time. The import volume was 26.9165 billion euros, up 17.0% year on year, accounting for 75.1% of the total import amount over the same period of time.

II. Trade outside the EU

In January-May 2019, Romania鈥檚 trade volume with the countries outside the EU was 15.6188 billion euros, up 15.4% year on year, taking up 24.0% of Romania鈥檚 total amount of import and export over the same period of time. Among these, the export volume was 6.6727 billion euros, up 6.6% year on year, accounting for 22.7% of the total export amount over the same period of time. The import volume was 8.9461 billion euros, up 23.0% year on year, accounting for 24.9% of the total import amount over the same period of time.

III. Trade deficit

In January-May 2019, the FOB-valued exports were offset by the CIF-valued imports, and Romania鈥檚 trade deficit was 6.5233 billion euros, with an increase of 151.1 million euros year on year. Among these, the trade deficit within the EU was 4.2499 billion euros, up 26.8% year on year and the trade deficit outside the EU was 2.2734 billion euros, up 31.3% year on year.

In May, Romania鈥檚 trade deficit was 1.4816 billion euros, with an increase of 208.6 billion euros year on year.

IV. Trade structure

From the perspective of the structure, in January-May 2019, Romania鈥檚 main categories of imports and exports were machinery and transportation equipment (accounting for 49.3% of the total export volume and 37.3% of the total import volume respectively over the same period of time) and other processed products (taking up 32.4% of the total export volume and 30.6% of the total import volume respectively over the same period of time).
