Seminar on China-Africa Bilateral Trade Promotion Held in Changsha
  

On the afternoon of June 27, 2019, the Ministry of Commerce and the Hunan Provincial People's Government jointly held the Seminar on China-Africa Bilateral Trade Promotion in Changsha. The seminar was the matching event of the first China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo. Attending were more than 500 representatives from Chinese and African government departments, international organizations, business associations and enterprises. Vice Minister of Commerce Qian Keming, Member of the Standing Hunan Provincial Party Committee and Standing Vice Governor Xie Jianhui, Minister of Trade of Angola Jofre Van-D煤nem J煤nior, Ugandan Minister of State for Trade Hon Werikhe Micheal, Cameroon Minister of Commerce Luc-Magloire Mbarga Atangana and Director of the Division of Country Programmes of the United Nations International Trade Centre Ashish Shah attended the event and delivered speeches. Director Wu Zhengping of the Trade Development Bureau presided over the seminar.

Vice Minister Qian Keming pointed out that President Xi Jinping announced the implementation of the eight major initiatives at the Beijing Summit of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum in September 2018. This is the main line of China's pragmatic cooperation with Africa both at present and in the future. China is willing to join hands with Africa to create a community of shared future for China and Africa that pursues responsibility sharing, win-win cooperation, happiness sharing, cultural prosperity, security and harmony. Under the "eight major initiatives", China will implement trade facilitation initiatives and focus on the following aspects. First, China will further open up markets to African countries. Second, China will support African countries in improving their trade capacity. Third, China will improve trade facilitation between China and Africa to further enhance the quality and level of China-Africa trade cooperation.

Minister of Trade of Angola Jofre Van-D煤nem J煤nior introduced the basic situation of Angola鈥檚 trade with China. He hoped that under the framework of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum, Angola will further strengthen economic and trade cooperation with China, especially the export of non-petroleum products to China, through important platforms such as China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo and China International Import Expo, and comprehensively enhances the level and quality of China-Africa trade cooperation.

Ugandan Minister of State for Trade Hon Micheal Kafabusa Werikhe introduced the basic situation of China-Africa trade, the relevant preferential arrangements and the development prospects. He put forward that under the guidance of the principle of mutual benefit and win-win, Uganda will focus on the key factors such as infrastructure construction, energy, financing and human resources to expand the scale of bilateral trade and improve trade quality.

Cameroon Minister of Commerce Luc-Magloire Mbarga Atangana emphasized the importance of the Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation in promoting China-Africa economic and trade cooperation. He pointed out that the China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo provides an important platform for China-Africa economic and trade pragmatic cooperation and hopes to acquire more support and assistance in Chinese technical standards, inspection and quarantine.

Deputy General Manager Zhang Juan of the Department of Trade Insurance Underwriting of China Export & Credit Insurance Corporation, Deputy General Manager Wang Weijing of the Department of International Business of Industrial and Commercial Bank of China, Commissioner Ma Jia in charge of the US$5 billion fund for Africa of the Department of Trade and Finance of the Export-Import Bank of China, Vice President Wang Maochun of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products delivered speeches on facilitating China-Africa trade, import trade and financing policies with Africa, economic cooperation and financial support policies for Africa, and China-Africa cooperation in pharmaceutical industry respectively.

Representatives from Kilimall and Hunan Gaoqiao Grand Market introduced how cross border e-commerce and grand market promote China-Africa trade cooperation.

During the seminar, the signing ceremony of 11 China-Africa trade cooperation projects, including financial cooperation agreements under import trade item with Africa was held.

The seminar was hosted by the Trade Development Bureau of the Ministry of Commerce.
